L'Infini ; présentation
L'infini vient du Latin "finitus" qui veut dire limité.
On le note habituellement par le signe ∞
Il veut dire quelque chose qui n'a pas de limite en taille ou en nombre.
Les mathématiciens définissent l'infini par des axiomes (c'est-à-dire quelque chose que l'on doit accepter sans chercher d'explication).
Les physiciens, en cosmologie, se demandent si l'univers n'a pas une taille infinie.
Origines de la notation ∞
Chez les romains, pour écrire mille, on écrivait : mille ou CI, avant d'écrire M.
L'évolution graphique a donné ∞ .
En Latin, milles au pluriel désignait un nombre très grand et inconnu.
Exemples d'infinis
En géométrie, les droites ont une longueur infinie
En algèbre, les nombres vont de -∞ à + ∞
En arithmétique, 1/3=0.333333333333… etc. donc 1/3 a un quotient infini.

On peut en algèbre finir l'infini par une simple équation :
X = 0.99999999…
10 X = 9.99999999…
10 x - x = 9,999… - 0,99999999…
9 X = 9
X = 1 !
